Our Brand Story
We are a small team of public relations practitioners working for vector Malaysia, a subsidiary of vector Incorporation, the largest PR agency in Japan. After three years of PR operations in Malaysia, we decided to venture into a new business vertical.
We know how much Malaysians, young and old, love ice cream. However, it is hard to find premium and authentic Japanese tea ice cream in the city despite a good demand for cold desserts. And so our journey begins.
Matcha Eight was launched in April 2021 with an exclusive partnership with Michelin-starred Master Chef Takuji Takahashi who develops the recipe for each of our ice cream flavours. Based in Kyoto, Master Chef Takuji Takahashi is the third-generation owner of Kinobu Restaurant. The restaurant is renowned for its traditional kaiseki cuisines.
We carefully source our tea powder directly from farmers in Wazuka town, Kyoto Prefecture. We are proud to support these farmers who have been running the family-inherited tea plantations for decades. Each of our ice cream flavours is made using the single-origin tea powder harvested by these farmers respectively to bring out the most authentic tea taste in our ice cream.
Being the pioneer brand that receives firsthand supply from them without a middleman, for the first time, they know who their end consumer is. It is you. This recognition is the most joyful thing for them!
For us, ice cream gives an instant mood fix whenever we need a break. Powered with the benefits of Japanese tea, we bring together the two important things in our life, being happy and healthy. We want people to have a little joy in hand even when they have their down moments in life.
It is our mission to spread happiness and positivity around people with a cone or a cup of the best Japanese tea ice cream. After all, life isn’t that bitter.
